Michael Robert Mercer

1943 – 2025

On the 9th day of April 2025, Michael “Mike” Robert Mercer passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family.

Mike was a devoted husband to Barbara, loving father to Lisa and Jenna, and proud father-in-law to Craig, Mark, and Karl. He was a cherished papa to Taylor (Joey), Jamie (Cory), Jake (Jasmine), Maddie (Johnny), and Emma. He was predeceased by his parents, Valerie and Peter, and is survived by his brother Rick.

Born on April 6th, 1943, in Sherborne, England, Mike immigrated to Canada at the age of six with his grandmother. He served with honour in the Canadian Armed Forces and was always eager to share stories of his youth. Alongside his wife, he co-founded and successfully ran Mercer Broadloom for over 20 years β€” a business built on hard work and love.

Mike was a longtime and proud member of the Oshawa Gun Club, visiting regularly on Wednesdays, and found joy puttering in his garage between those visits. He treasured time spent at his trailer on Jack Lake, where for over 50 years he fished, boated, and relaxed on the dock with wine and good company. He loved to dance β€” especially to β€œThe Gambler,” β€œWake Me Up Before You Go-Go,” and β€œFootloose” β€” never letting bad knees slow him down.

Mike loved fiercely. He laughed loudly, cried openly, listened deeply, and supported those around him with strength and sincerity. He will be sorely missed, fondly remembered, and joyfully celebrated at every future gathering.

The family will receive friends at Wagg Funeral Home, 216 Queen Street in Port Perry, on Thursday, April 17th, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. A service to commemorate Mike’s life will follow in the Chapel at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Port Perry Hospital Foundation.

Memories, photos, and condolences may be shared at Wagg Funeral Home.
